How to Submit your work to Bez & Co.
Submissions are currently open for our Spring issue which will be released April, 2021.
Bez & Co is a Quarterly Journal that showcases the greatest Christ-honoring writing and artwork I receive.
At Bez & Co, I strive to showcase writing and art that embraces the difficulty and complexity of life and affirms humanity’s need for a Savior. What I’m after is effectual work in the traditions of the Psalmists, John Donne, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, Madeleine L’Engle, and countless others. My tastes are eclectic, and hopefully that is reflected in the writing that I showcase here.
Bez & Co publishes poems, prose poems, short stories (under 5,000 words,) flash-fiction (under 1,500 words,) creative-nonfiction (under 5,000 words,) and essays (under 5,000 words.) Visual art of any medium is also highly encouraged!
Submissions are now open. The Quarterly is released on the following schedule:
Winter (Released January)
Spring (Released April)
Summer (Released July)
Autumn (Released October)
Submissions are read on a rolling basis.
It’s an open secret that to start a literary journal is not a financially lucrative decision. Still, I recognize the importance of paying artists for their contributions. Even a nominal sum of money can serve to encourage and motivate, particularly in the case of fledgling artists.
Toward this end, beginning with our Spring 2021 issue, each submission that is accepted for publication will be paid at the rate of $5 USD. Payment is upon publication. Bez & Co prefers to use PayPal to pay its contributors. If you need alternative accommodations, please let me know upon acceptance of publication, and I will work to find a solution.
Submit previously unpublished work only. Any work that has previously appeared on your personal website or blog is allowed.
Send no more than three poems OR three pieces of visual art OR one story OR one nonfiction piece OR one essay per submission.
Each individual piece should be included as an attachment. The preferred format for all written work is .doc or .docx. If special formatting is required, .pdf is acceptable, as well. Preferred formats for visual art are, (in order) .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif.
Please indicate “________ SUBMISSION” on your subject line, filling in the “blank” with “poem,” “short story,” “painting,” etc. Submissions without “Submission” in the subject line will most likely go unread.
Include a brief biography (all bios are subject to editing,) of 250 words or fewer. Also include a URL to your blog or website, if applicable. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but not preferred. If your work is accepted elsewhere please inform me immediately.
My aim is to respond to all submissions within 14 days of receipt (usually sooner.) I will not respond (accept or decline) with a form letter and I’ll comment on submissions whenever possible.
If your work is accepted at Bez & Co, you agree to grant us First North American Serial Rights, all archival rights, plus the rights to reprint in any future anthologies. Upon publication all rights revert back to the author. You agree that if your work subsequently appears elsewhere (in print or online,) you will give due credit to Bez & Co.
Established and new writers are encouraged to submit, as all works will be accepted based on merit alone. For a better grasp on what I’m looking for, please visit the “About Bez & Co” page and look around at previously published material.
Submissions that ignore these guidelines will likely be declined immediately.
Please send all submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you!
